Hello! My name’s Rob, thanks a lot for popping by.
I’m a zoologist and conservationist and currently live and work full-time on Skomer Island for the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. As well as looking after our island visitors, I help survey and monitor our amazing seabirds and seals, run our island comms and facilitate our long-term volunteer programme too.

I’m also a passionate science communicator and create films, photographs and other media for my channels. I also undertake freelance work, most recently for the Wildlife Trust, RSPB and Biosecurity For Life. Whilst enjoying all aspects of the process, I have a particular interest in production and presenting.
Growing up, nature was always my passion. I studied for an MSci in Zoology at the University of Southampton, where I developed a keen research interest in birds and bats, more specifically their behaviour and vocalisations. My Masters research used an acoustic approach to surveying these species within the context of human-wildlife conflict in the Belizean rainforest. All of these elements influence my science communication work today.
Please enjoy exploring my website and seeing the projects I am currently working on. Feel free to get in touch with any comments or collaborations.
This website is a personal project and all thoughts are my own.

Skomer Island
Whilst this website is independent of my full-time work (and does not reflect the views of my employer), it is important for me to mention what I do for work to provide context on my lifestyle.
Outside of my freelance science communication work, I work full-time as Skomer Island Visitor Officer for the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. This involves living on the island for 9 months a year, with 3 months working off island over winter.
My role is very varied – I look after the hostel, deal with and host media enquiries and run the Skomer Island social media. I am also heavily involved with research and monitoring on the island, including seabird counts, seal surveying, breeding bird surveys, Chough roost counts and cetacean surveys.
