Skomer Stories, Episode 1: Seal Monitoring

The first in a series of self-shot videos planned for late 2024 and early 2025. This series is designed to give the viewer an insight into the work we carry out and the wildlife we protect – all to give people a taste of Skomer from home. This episode focuses on seal monitoring and the work we do to estimate seal pup numbers each year.

Island Fog

With just a few of us on island, the fog descended at the Farm yesterday. The light, the silence and visibility felt very atmospheric – I just had to record a few shots.

Skomer Live

I was asked to create a short film on my island research into the bats on Skomer. I filmed, edited and presented this data on Skomer Live, a YouTube show starring Lizzie Daly and Iolo Williams.

COP26

During my time interning with the RSPB, I was asked to attend COP26 as a youth delegate. In this space, I attended plenary sessions, spoke to politicians and NGOs and created media content for the RSPB. As part of this work, I also worked on several short films which were shown at a film festival at the conference.

Rowanbank

I produced and edited this short film to project the view of young people on climate change and COP26. Their views on the nature crisis were fresh, insightful and heartwarming.

Big Nature Day

In partnership with ScotLINK, I was asked to produce a virtual guided walk of the peatland pool system at Forsinard. I filmed, directed and edited this short film (aerial footage provided by RSPB).

Wild Challenge

As a result of my lockdown back garden wildlife videos, I was asked to make a short film on building a bird bath in your garden.

Lockdown Videos

Some of my earliest videos came into fruition doing lockdown. Stuck at home with my internship cancelled, I had time to pursue my passion for science communication using my collection of skulls and feathers along with my back garden.

All videos are available on YouTube, but some of my favourites are included below.
